Overview

SHA Risk Specialists, a division within Sanlam, is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Financial Lines Underwriter. This role requires a sharp analytical mind, deep industry knowledge, and a customer-centric approach to managing complex financial risks.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Assessment & Underwriting

Assess new and renewal insurance proposals.

Conduct detailed research and analysis on risks.

Determine coverage structure, pricing, and negotiate with brokers.

Use underwriting tools and judgment to set appropriate premiums.

Portfolio & Financial Management

Monitor and manage portfolio performance.

Forecast premiums and contribute to budget planning.

Maintain accurate digital records and reporting.

Client & Broker Engagement

Conduct training sessions and communicate complex technical concepts.

Handle queries related to accounts and credit control.

Build and maintain strong broker/client relationships.

Qualifications & Experience

Preferred tertiary qualification (LLB, B.Comm in Insurance, Finance, Accounting, or Economics).

NQF 7 in insurance or risk management.

Minimum 3 years technical underwriting experience in financial lines.

FAIS compliance and RE5 qualification.

Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, and Microsoft platforms.

Technical & Industry Knowledge

Strong grasp of insurance and reinsurance market practices.

Deep understanding of financial lines products and risk exposures.

Competence in evaluating financial statements and economic indicators.

Awareness of fraud, governance, and emerging macroeconomic risks.
