About the Role
Steinmüller Africa is seeking a skilled and motivated CNC Programmer/Operator to join our Machine Shop team. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming and operating CNC and related machines, ensuring precision manufacturing in line with specifications, safety standards, and productivity goals.
This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role suited for a technically skilled artisan with a passion for high-quality engineering and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret technical drawings and complete work according to specifications and tolerances.
- Operate CNC, Lathe, Milling, Radial Arm Drill, and Cut-Off Saw machines.
- Meet daily production targets and maintain high-quality workmanship.
- Uphold company discipline and timekeeping standards.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are in safe, working condition.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Coordinate with QC for verifications and NDTs.
- Plan and execute work efficiently, maintaining quality, safety, and productivity.
- Minimize scrap and verify CNC programs before execution.
- Adhere to internal controls and work order processes.
- Operate CNC machines safely and accurately.
- Willingness to learn and operate advanced machines (Fermat vertical and Goratu horizontal milling with Heidenhain software).
- Perform any additional job-related duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum: Grade 12
- Preferred: N5 Mechanical Certificate
- Trade: Qualified Artisan (Red Seal)
- Experience: 3+ years in a machine shop (preferably in the power industry)
Technical Experience:
- CNC programming and operation on Haas Milling, Goratu Milling, CNC Boring Mill machines.
- Proficiency with Fanuc, Fagor, Heidenhain controls.
- Skilled in Mastercam, Heiden Hein, SolidWorks programming.
- Use of precision measuring instruments (verniers, micrometers, depth gauges, laser alignment tools, etc.).
- Machining of high-pressure, thick-walled components for power generation.
- Knowledge of risk assessment, machining standards, and workshop safety.
- Understanding of Lockout/Tagout, work-at-heights, and permit-to-work systems.
- Competent in MS Office and general computer literacy.
- Valid Driver’s Licence required.
