About the Learnership
The City of Cape Town invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Metro Police and Traffic Learnership Programme 2026. This exciting opportunity provides structured training in law enforcement, traffic management, and public safety, preparing learners for a possible future in the City’s Public Safety Department.
Minimum Requirements
✅ South African Citizen
✅ Grade 12 Certificate (attach certified copy)
✅ Valid Code B manual driver’s licence
✅ Aged 18–34 years
✅ Fluent in English and at least one other official language
✅ Medically and physically fit to undergo strenuous training
✅ No criminal record or pending cases
✅ Permanent resident of Cape Town (proof required)
✅ No visible tattoos when wearing uniform
✅ Unemployed as of 7 January 2026
Compulsory Fitness Tests
Candidates must pass all fitness assessments, including:
🏃♂️ 2.4 km run (Men: 12 min | Women: 14 min)
💪 30 Push-ups in 60 seconds
🧍 30 Sit-ups in 60 seconds
🏋️ Dead load carry (2 × 25kg over 100m)
🛞 Tyre drag (20m)
🏃 20m shuttle runs (10 in 60 seconds)
🧱 2.1m wall climb
🏍 Motorcycle reach test
🏊 Comfort swim (any stroke, unassisted)
Additional Selection Steps
- Written assessment and interview
- Criminal record and fingerprint checks
- Medical and psychological evaluations
- Drug testing (must test drug-free)
- City driver assessment
Training Details
Learners will complete the Further Education and Training Certificate in Road Traffic Law Enforcement and the Law Enforcement Skills Programme (SP4/2012).
Training will include firearm competency, physical fitness, and academic assessments.
Note: Completion of the programme does not guarantee permanent employment with the City.
