Applications for Unemployed Learners’ Bursaries for the Academic Year 2024

According to the Skills Development Act No. 97 of 1998, the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) for the Mining and Minerals Sector.
The MQA invites students who are currently enrolled in grade 12 or who are already enrolled in a public university, university of technology, or TVET college to submit an application
For the 2024 academic year, a total of 1000 bursary opportunities will be available.
The bursary will pay for meals, books, and lodging in addition to tuition.
NB: South African nationals ONLY are eligible for the bursary.
According to the list below, the MQA bursary programme primarily funds the following degrees at colleges of applied technology, universities, and universities.
However, the MQA may reserve 20% of the total bursary allotments for the 2024 academic year for credentials that it may believe to be essential for the mining and minerals industry but are not specified below.

When choosing candidates, the following criteria will be prioritised:
• Applicants who are Historically Disadvantaged Individuals (HDI).
• Applicants in financial need with an annual household income of no more than R600 000. MQA will confirm the household income, and applications that falsely state the household income will be rejected.
• Those who applied.
• Those who reside in rural areas.
• Candidates who submitted applications to study at their neighbourhood tertiary institutions.
• Candidates who have an excellent academic history.
Window for Applications
From 1 September 2023 through 1 October 2023, applications will be accepted.
Late applications won’t be taken into consideration.
The candidate must be unemployed at the time of application and must continue to be unemployed during the term of their studies in order to be eligible for the bursary.

Only submissions made to the aforementioned email address will be taken into consideration.
Please be aware that only those applicants who are selected for communication will do so. By November 30, 2023, if you have not heard from the MQA, please consider your application to have been rejected.
